Our citizen-consumer grocery program continues to grow as we forge new partnerships with independent food makers around the country.

For over two years now, as Covid-19 has contributed to an already accelerating trend of corporate consolidation in the food industry, there is a need to build an alternative food economy. This is not only important for Equal Exchange as an alternative trade organization but for our role in the wider food system.

Since we launched our initiative to support other like-minded independent businesses, we have heard from many of you that you want to learn more about the folks we have chosen to team up with. So as part of our ongoing Vendor Series, we are really pleased to present Kyle Fiasconaro, founder of Brewer’s Crackers, located in nearby Somerville, MA. We hope these events continue to spark conversations and questions and even inspire many to start a buying club with some of these awesome alternative products!

Our products from Brewer’s Crackers are Sea Salt Pita Chips, Rosemary Pita Chips and Sea Salt Flatbread Crackers.  Brewer's Crackers is a "spent grain" cracker company driven to reduce food waste in the craft brewing industry. Spent grains are a valuable by-product from the beer making process. When making beer, brewers steep super high-quality grains, like barley, in water. They then strain this mixture, keeping the liquid to make beer and discard the "spent" grains. Turns out, these grains are still incredibly flavorful and the steeping process actually unlocks valuable nutrients. Brewer's Crackers recycles these grains into crackers and combines them with 100% whole wheat flour. And we have to say, these are the best pita chips we have ever tried.

As an independent food business, Kyle has experienced many of the market pressures that we have.  It has been a pleasure to collaborate with this hard-working founder/owner and we are excited that you will be able to “meet” him soon as well!
